RESEARCH PAPERS--
Alpha/Delta have had a pending research paper since November 10th. About 80% of the students have turned their papers in on time. Great Job. Great Papers. Very Informative.
But then there is the other 20%, the paper is almost half of the student's six-week grade, so it is very, very important. I am willing to accept papers over Christmas break since my blog went down and destroyed all information pertaining to the research paper. Although I gave hand-outs and verbal instructions daily. I questioned individuals about their papers and received a variety of excuses. Any paper handed in now--will be late. Five weeks is plenty of lead time. Originally, it was only three, but I kept pushing the deadline forward. No paper will result in a failing grade.
What should they had written.
500+ word paper on scientist of choice detailing early life, education, influences, personal life, and scientific advances and discoveries and how the discoveries impact life today.
The paper should be typed, double spaced and include a title page

It also should have a resource page with three references listed in alphabetical order.
It should be in their own words---please no cut and paste.
I have heard all sorts of excuses. I have allowed students to type during science. I have provided research material myself. Students without ink in their home printers I have offered the school printer or emailing their paper. No emailed papers yet. Today I will be taking aside students and emphasizing the need to turn in the paper. I am giving the students a BIG break because of technology breakdown, but all in all , 80% of the other students STILL managed to get their work in on time. I hate to be like Charlie Brown's teacher giving homework over break, but it needs to be turned in. Part of getting older is doing what you need to do in a timely fashion--research papers included!
