Archery Summer Camp

Archery Summer Camp - June 10 to July 29

This summer is an excellent time for Cadets to take advantage of their free time by learning the basics of archery through Archery Summer Camp. A registration fee of $25 includes use of equipment and maintenance. The archery instruction, led by Coach DeGies and his assistant, covers safety, terminology, the 11-point shooting technique, strict range use, and proper use of equipment.

The first class starts on June 10 and will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon through July 29. Please check the blog regularly for archery updates.

Note: Parents will need to pick up students promptly at noon, as the school doors will not remain open after that time. We welcome all parents to come and observe the classes.

The camp is open to all APA students. To sign up, please contact Coach DeGies via email or by phone:

For students who wish to take archery to the next level, there is an opportunity to compete in the state tournament held every April. Tournament-level competition requires practice, practice, practice so that archers can perfect the 11 points of shooting before entering the tournament.

Archery Page on the School Web Site (New!)

We have added an Archery page to the GoAPA web site with more information about archery and a welcome to our new archery coach Mr. Al DeGies!

APA Cross-Country

Just a quick reminder that any 8th or 9th grade student who is interested in running cross-country this fall is invited to conditioning practices this summer starting on July 1st.  We will be conditioning at either Shadyside Park or Mounds State Park on Monday and Wednesday nights.  Students were asked to pick up a full schedule for all interested prior to the last day of school.  A full schedule will be posted on the blog prior to the start date of July 1st.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me.  The best way is through email: elewis@goapa.org.

Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing many of you in a little over a month!

Sincerely,

Eric Lewis, XC Coach

Physical Science 8

Today is the last academic day for science. Students will be taking their finals using their notes that they paintakingly took the last two days. I highly urged them to take notes since we covered the final question by question. All textbooks need to be turned in no later than Thursday. I personally wrote their names in each book and will be checking to see if that book is returned. I am encouraging a thorough check of lockers. If a student doesn't turn in a book, I will notify the parent of the missing book and you can look together. Of course, we need all the books back for the next eighth grade science. Workbooks and lab manuals do not need to be returned. Notebooks have been graded. If a student did not produce a notebook on Friday, they received a zero, there was a two week warning when the notebooks would be collected and I had several turn in their notebooks during studyhall. Needless to say, the final is the final grade.

During the summer, you might look around and decide what might be a good concept for a fall science fair project, especially future ninth graders. Every ninth grader can compete against high school students in this region. They can compete and win, but it takes planning and work!
