Soccer conditioning and reminders...

Reminder to HS soccer players and parents:

There will be no soccer conditioning this week.  Our next meeting will be Tuesday, July 13th from 4:30-6:00pm.  Following the practice, I would like to meet briefly with parents.

A few things to keep in mind:

Before July 17th all HS soccer players must order the required equipment on-line.  The flyer describing how to make this order is attached and ONLY the items stared are required (Nike America Short and both black and white Twin City socks).  I will also be passing the flyer out at the meeting on the 13th and possibly placing orders there.

If physicals have not been done yet they need to be done as soon as possible!

Thanks and I hope everyone had a great 4th of July!

Archery update

Cadets/Archers/Parents,

First off let me apologize for not having more practices over the last few weeks, as the Cadets have been inquiring. I have taken a new job which has involved a lot of my time. I too miss the practices, and look forward to getting back on track as soon as a schedule's in place.

I have consulted with the APA Athletics Director, and asked that he try to schedule Archery meets against local schools, as well as, practices (gym use). Hopefully I will have answers regarding schedules during our banquet.

The banquet/fundraiser is scheduled for this coming Thursday at 6pm. All team members should be present and all those interested in archery are invited!

We had lots of arrows break and become defective which are not cheap to replace, as well as, parts on the bows needing care and replacement. Also funds will be applied towards gas for the school bus for meets we may have scheduled either this year/next year 2010/2011 season. With the addition of a new High School for APA, we will need another set of equipment as trying to relocate equipment will surely cause damage. We need all the funds we can gather to pay for needed equipment/repairs to existing equipment.

Monday April 26th, 2010, I will be sending all "APA Team Archers" home with an envelope with 5 tickets. I want them to sell those 5 tickets which can be to family, friends, or even classmates to purchase tickets, as this is a fundraiser to help the archery fund. I posted notices throughout the school all last week, and really need a headcount for the catering services by this Tuesday. I realize this does not leave cadets much time to sell tickets, but it's been posted over a week and the banquet is this Thursday. We really need a headcount and need help with funds!

For those of you that are interested in archery, now is the time to come and meet fellow archers, ask Coach DeGies questions about archery and requirements, fill out paperwork, etc.  Tickets may still be purchased at the front office from Mrs. Armstrong by no later than TUESDAY APRIL 29th, 2010, for $6.25 each ticket (checks made payable to APA), which includes pulled pork, two sides, a dessert, drink. Again, funds are needed to pay for catering service with remaining funds to go to archery fund.

I look forward to seeing everyone there, and appreciate everyone's cooperation!!!!

Coach DeGies

Archery Notes from Coach DeGies

I would like to thank all the parents, and students for their participation in APA's Summer Archery Camp. I had a great time just watching Cadets grow with what I taught them. Every single Cadet improved form and accuracy tremendously! I remember the first day of camp where most students struggled to even hit the target at all, to some shooting tight patterns, and scoring high in points.

I enjoyed watching every Cadet play Archery Tic-Tac-Toe, elimination (bragging rights for the week), and of course shooting at balloons. What Cadets may not realize is: They were challenged in shooting techniques with all those games we played.

I personally have definitely noticed a dramatic change in all the students' form and accuracy! I am sincerely impressed with the cadets' enthusiasm and willingness to achieve perfection within this sport. I look forward to helping those who want to compete, and am doing my best to organize a team with APA. Please be patient, as there is lots to coordinate with other school programs going on as well during the week and needs to be coordinated by the athletics director.

We are currently looking into APA Archery, just the same as any other sport or athletic program within the school. We are awaiting a list of other schools involved in archery, in order for us to compete against, during the school year. Archery will need to be coordinated with other school activities such as boys/girls basketball and volleyball to include use of the school gymnasium for practices and competition during the normal school week. As soon as APA can get all activities coordinated, information will be posted within the APA Website/Athletics link. Again, we have a NASP State Tournament, which is held in Muncie every year (usually around April), open for any Cadet wanting to join our team. If we have any archers who score in the top during State Tournament, they can advance to Nationals, which were held in Reno-NV last year.

I've had both Parents and Cadets talk to me about purchasing equipment to own, for their personal use and training at home. I think this is an awesome idea! This would allow Cadets to practice at home as much as allowed. Cadets of course would still be entitled to use school archery equipment during archery practices at school. I would be more than willing to give information on specifics of equipment needed to include, bow, arrows, type of target needed, and regulation distances to shoot from, so that transition between use of school and personal equipment would be identical.

I thank you all, for allowing me the privilege of teaching archery to Cadets! I look forward to working with any of the Cadets wanting to continue their shooting skills.
