Uniform Turn In

Just a reminder than uniform turn in starts on Monday.  9th grade begins on Monday with 7th on Tuesday and 6th on Wed. 8th grade will turn in their items on Monday 24 May after the graduation ceremony. Be sure that all of the uniform items are washed or cleaned and on a hangar.  Damaged or missing items will be charged to the cadet and this will be sent home in June.  This includes both name tags, hat and rank insignia, as well as BDU, boots and field gear taken to encampment.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Cadet Aircraft rides 19-22 April

We are going to attempt to get all of the cadets aircraft rides on the above dates.  Each cadet will bring home the flying schedule for the activity.  Beginning on Monday 19 April, the 6th grade classes will be required to wear their CAP uniform in full to school since that is a requirement to fly in the CAP planes.  As the schedule shows the rest of the classes are due to fly, uniforms will also be required of those cadets. They will also be required to have their CAPID cards on their person.  Please help them to remember to do so.  This is not a required activity, so if anyone wants to decline the opportunity that will be perfectly understood.  Please call and let me know.  Thanks.

Cadet Plane Rides

Just a heads up that the cadets are going to be given the opportunity to fly with the Civil Air Patrol the week of 19 April.  Of course this all depends on weather, CAP mission requirements, etc.  Parents will be welcome to come to the Anderson Airport to watch their respective cadet enjoy their flight experience.  More later as the time gets closer.

Spring Encampment

The Spring Civil Air Patrol leadership encampment will be held from Monday, 5 April thru Sunday 11 April 2010.  The CAP Indiana Wing Staff has put a great deal of effort and expense into setting up the encampment primarily for the APA cadets.  The first week of January we sent out invitations to cadets to attend and received back about 50 commitment letters.  To date we have received only 12 applications.  These were suppose to have been turned into me by 1 February 2010 so that those who will not be attending can be replaced.  Therefore, it is imperative to have the formal applications returned to me by Friday 5 February.  The $125.00 fee for the encampment is not due until 15 March 2010.

We have also gone to a great deal of effort to ensure that there were fund raising possibilities so the cadets could raise the funds for the encampment.  If there is any interest in attending there should be no reason that the cadets can not do so if they will make the effort to go out and raise the funds.  These funds that are raised can be tax deductions if the provider so desires and we have given out to the cadets the necessary form to give to those who assist them.

Please feel free to contact me if there are any concerns.

Encampment in April

I want to give you an update for the cadets that are going to the encampment in April.  Cadets will report to Camp Atterbury not later than 1000 hours on Monday April 4.  The encampment will run thru Sunday 11 April at 1000 hours when there will be a formal parade and pass in review.  Dismissal will be about noon.   The $125.00 fee for the encampment will be due to the Academy not later than 15 March 2010.  There will be a meeting of the cadets on Thursday after school at 1500 hours where there will be some additional forms distributed that will require completion.  I will need those back to me not later than Tuesday 26 January.  We will have a dry run for the encampment on 19 and 20 March. More on that as we get closer to that weekend.

Once again, we encourage the cadets to solicit sponsors that can contribute to their attendance at the encampment.  I will again provide donations forms and an information letter that can be provided for the prospective donor.

Please call if there are any questions.

CAP ENCAMPMENT INFORMATION

I want to thank those that came last Monday for the parents meeting.  For those that were unable to come, I want to provide some of the information from the meeting.

1.  The cost information is in the $300 range including the cost for the encampment and additional items required.  I know that is a lot of money.  What I suggested is that the cadets solicit donations or sponsorships from business and others to earn the cost for the encampment.  I have prepared a letter of explanation as well as a letter to give to donors so that they can possibly use the sponsorship as a tax deduction.  In my experience it is best if the cadets do this so that they can appreciate the experience they will have at Camp Atterbury.

2.  There are three documents that the cadets should get from me if they have not already done so.  These include a letter explaining the activities at the camp.  An equipment list is also available.  I have just received the Indiana equipment list.  Be sure to note that they will need a reflective vest to meet the requirement of Camp Atterbury.  I have a copy of the donation receipt that the cadets can copy for the donation.

3.  Please get me the permission slips back ASAP.  We are going to try and take as many as 80 cadets so we do not want to take a long time to fill possible vacancies.

4.  This encampment is required for the cadets to get promoted to the cadet officer grades, so I hope that each of you take that into consideration as you make decisions about the activity.

Feel free to contact me if any questions.

Civil Air Patrol Encampment

A week long encampment for selected 7th, 8th and 9th grade cadets will be held the week of 4 April at Camp Atterbury located south of Indianapolis.  This will be a resident course where the cadets spend the entire time at the National Guard/ Reserve training base.  The objective of the encampment is to provide leadership training for our APA cadets to better prepare them to meet their roles as members of the cadet corps and the commmunity.  There will be a cost of $120 per cadet for the encampment.  Additionally, they will need to have at least two pair of complete BDU uniforms and one for the shortsleeve blue uniforms.  We will do our best to provide the BDU and boots but I can not guarantee that we can outfit all of the 80 cadet with two sets.  Therefore, it would be wise to start preparing to get the full second set of BDU including the name tapes, patches, etc.  Additionally, each of the cadets will have to have shoes acceptable for the blue uniforms.  That will be a rounded black shoe with a smooth toe and no seams or buckles or designs etc.  Please take a look at the web site for the Hock Shop www.thehock.com to see what the shoe type looks like.  You can get these at www.sears.com less expensive that most places.  These type of shoes will be mandatory for the fall so I would suggest getting a head start on that for the fall start time.

This will be an exciting event for the cadets, but there is a great deal of planning and preparation that must go into this and it must start now.  Selection will be announced the first week of January so more at that time.  If you do have any questions, please feel to call.  Thanks.
