Cadets, we are this week working on resumes.  The unit for this six weeks will get you thinking about your futures and career choices.  It is very important to take in all of the information given to you either in class or the rules in life; which will help with your future successes.  Please have all materials to class, because there will be research on those items.

We are currently on week 2.

CAP ENCAMPMENT INFORMATION

I want to thank those that came last Monday for the parents meeting.  For those that were unable to come, I want to provide some of the information from the meeting.

1.  The cost information is in the $300 range including the cost for the encampment and additional items required.  I know that is a lot of money.  What I suggested is that the cadets solicit donations or sponsorships from business and others to earn the cost for the encampment.  I have prepared a letter of explanation as well as a letter to give to donors so that they can possibly use the sponsorship as a tax deduction.  In my experience it is best if the cadets do this so that they can appreciate the experience they will have at Camp Atterbury.

2.  There are three documents that the cadets should get from me if they have not already done so.  These include a letter explaining the activities at the camp.  An equipment list is also available.  I have just received the Indiana equipment list.  Be sure to note that they will need a reflective vest to meet the requirement of Camp Atterbury.  I have a copy of the donation receipt that the cadets can copy for the donation.

3.  Please get me the permission slips back ASAP.  We are going to try and take as many as 80 cadets so we do not want to take a long time to fill possible vacancies.

4.  This encampment is required for the cadets to get promoted to the cadet officer grades, so I hope that each of you take that into consideration as you make decisions about the activity.

Feel free to contact me if any questions.

Civil Air Patrol Encampment

A week long encampment for selected 7th, 8th and 9th grade cadets will be held the week of 4 April at Camp Atterbury located south of Indianapolis.  This will be a resident course where the cadets spend the entire time at the National Guard/ Reserve training base.  The objective of the encampment is to provide leadership training for our APA cadets to better prepare them to meet their roles as members of the cadet corps and the commmunity.  There will be a cost of $120 per cadet for the encampment.  Additionally, they will need to have at least two pair of complete BDU uniforms and one for the shortsleeve blue uniforms.  We will do our best to provide the BDU and boots but I can not guarantee that we can outfit all of the 80 cadet with two sets.  Therefore, it would be wise to start preparing to get the full second set of BDU including the name tapes, patches, etc.  Additionally, each of the cadets will have to have shoes acceptable for the blue uniforms.  That will be a rounded black shoe with a smooth toe and no seams or buckles or designs etc.  Please take a look at the web site for the Hock Shop www.thehock.com to see what the shoe type looks like.  You can get these at www.sears.com less expensive that most places.  These type of shoes will be mandatory for the fall so I would suggest getting a head start on that for the fall start time.

This will be an exciting event for the cadets, but there is a great deal of planning and preparation that must go into this and it must start now.  Selection will be announced the first week of January so more at that time.  If you do have any questions, please feel to call.  Thanks.
