On report cards, the progress report system records the exact GPA for the moment the report card is issued. So, it calculates whatever grades have been entered for the current grade period when the report card is issued. At the end of the semester, it will calculate a final semester GPA as well as a cumulative average.
Example: Student receives 4.0 for grade period 1 and grade period 2. Report card was issued a week into grade period 3. Grade period 3 is not reported on the official report card, but the student has an 85% in one of the subjects (for the moment...) so the semester and cumulative GPA are now lower than 4.0.
Since we issue report cards or progress reports every two weeks, I asked them to design it so we would have the up to the moment GPA. Once we pass the end of the six weeks, it "freezes" the six weeks grade and that is what counts.
See example. The official report card issued at the end of the second P2 grade period is affected by the latest grades that are in P3. Again, the final semester GPA is not "locked in" until the grade P3 period is finished.
